M30 × 125mm bolt in mild steel.

The plain shank carries shear load across the joint instead of the thread, so the parts cannot creep along the thread under sideways load. That is why structural connections specify bolts, not set screws. Mild steel is the standard general-purpose material for indoor and protected work.
